Hokkaido

Being fond of snow and cold, of Moriyama and Murakami, Hokkaido was a natural place to go. I’d seen some photo trips advertised that were beyond my reach financially, and so went solo.

One bag, one camera, one lens. A plan to meet Takahiro in Sendai; a chance to meet Bellamy. A minor quest to find the sheep farm.

The result is a magazine series, now at issue number seven (+1). I appreciate the cover shots are on the grey side; in hand they have higher contrast. No advertising.

A Mild Snow Chase 2 - Sapporo Sleeps

While Sapporo sleeps the New Year in, a diversion to Otaru happens.

A Mild Snow Chase 3 - 303 to Abashiri

Snow, boats and tetrapods at the most northern point in Japan.

A Mild Snow Chase 4 - Asahikawa squalls

Exploring Hokkaido often means passing through Asahikawa. Included is a serendipitous encounter with intrepid landscape

photographers in Biei - Yutoh and Tomohiro.

A Mild Snow Chase 5 - A Revelation

An agrarian misunderstanding involving both Haruki Murakami and Canadian maple tress. Akan-ko; Mashu-ko. A gentle and ethereal empty winter space.
